A New Shabby Skirt from a Sheet

Just look at that skirt!
Doesn't she look so pretty and feminine in her new duds!
(Just a quick heads up- I am asking if you will do me a little favor at the end of the post-
Please read (it's in pretty pink font!)

The creative space is coming along slowly but surely.  I am loving my sewing table with all it's cubbies!
If you missed the post on how 2 pieces of furniture were married to make this cubby hole table you can see it here.  It's pretty neat I think.
I still have boxes of things that I need to sort through and figure out where to put in the space and, for now, they are all stashed under the table.  Well who wants to see all that junk so I came up with an idea!
Maybe you would like to make a skirt for your table sometime so I thought I would
do a quick tutorial

I had a vintage sheet that had this pretty  ruffle edge at the top.
I also found 2 spring curtain rods in my stash that worked perfectly for this project.  (had to only buy 1 more for the 2nd side of table). I placed the rod up under the table and then measured from the rod to the floor plus added 7 inches to make a top ruffle.  I nipped the selvage end of the sheet and then was a brute with it, ribbing from end to end.   I then ripped the front piece down the middle having 2 equal sides.  I am one of those weird sewers in that I love using the knee pedal instead of the food petal. Between that and wanting more free access under the table I decided to make it in 2 sections.

For the sides I used just the plain part of the sheet without the pretty lace edging.  You will have some loose threads so just pull those till it stops raveling. I liked the raveled edge so did not hem.

Folding over the top portion 7 inches I stitched a casing for the tension rod to slip through.

Slip the rod through the casing, adjust tension to fit under the table edge snugly and there you have it!

All that stuff is now hidden away  but easy to access when needed.

Not quite done with my chair but here is a sneak peak !
It was made by re purposing another item.
Can you guess what it is?

OMG that is adorable and the tension rod was genius!!! I have curtains over all my tables in my craft room...Yep, you can stash tons of junk! Oh and my hair, that is so funny you are the second one that mentioned my grey, actually I put the highlights in myself, I think I left the bleach in to long this time....i am giggling as i write this, my hair is a mousy brown so in the summer I like to add a few blonde streaks...I guess i went a little to far LOL!

HI Mary Ellen! Oh, I love this idea! What a lovely sheet to use. I've thought of doing this with an old table but just can't get the initiative to start! :) Your sewing area is going to be so wonderful. I have an old school teacher's desk with the fake leather top I use as my sewing machine and it has a big space for the knee hole, so I may have to do this and poke some stuff under there! :) You're amazing.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Such pretty touch of elegance, so love it. I am not a ruffle kind of girl (wont' wear) but have been including in my home. I might do this below my desk to hide all the stuff and yet have such a very pretty look. Is it a chair cover? Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration over at Sunday's Best!

Thank you for sharing your lovely sewing table skirting project. I've been wanting to skirt my quilting table a long time but in a chintz and just couldn't decide. Seeing yours done so chic in white makes me rethink my project and maybe I'll get busy and get it done! And the voting was no problem, of all the great projects there I really did like yours best. Good luck!
