Some interesting dynamics can happen when 2 very different people marry.
Well it can be very dynamic when 2 different pieces of furniture do the same!
What happens when an ugly vintage sewing machine cabinet
marries a manly, greasy, oily piece of furniture called a card desk?
(Card desks were used before computers for keeping inventory. See all those cubbies? They held 4 x 6 cards that had each piece of inventory that was in a store. I know caz I sat at that desk for years when we had our auto/farm parts store)
Oops sorry for the bunny trail- but my, wasn't that such interesting information!
Back to what happens when these 2 pieces meet-
Fireworks!
Yup it was love at first site!
Some elbow grease to get all that gunk off the card desk, then measuring, cutting, painting, cutting some more and look what happened-
A perfect craft/sewing table with lots of cubbies for laces and things.
We cut the top of the sewing machine cabinet to fit the card desk so I could use this for my sewing table too. Dual purpose is always a good thing!
I lined the cubbies with old pages
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new Table!!!
And yes, that is an old machine which sews just beautifully! It's just like the one I learned on when I was little and when I found it at a yard sale knew it had to become mine!
So what do you think?
Do you think this marriage is a good one and will it last?
I am so excited about a creative space that I can work in!
I am not finished yet but as I mentioned in my last post I am truly having so much joy in this journey!
Thank you to all who have been so encouraging to me with this project!
I would never have even ventured to make a space just for me if it wasn't for you
and all those who have inspired me so much .
I will give you more details on how this was done later
(I sure wish someone would come and take pictures for me!
I cannot seem to get the depth of beauty
captured in mine.)

Great marriage!
You did a beautiful job!

Hope to see you on my blog:)
My, oh my! I love this hybrid piece. Such vision you have. And, I adore your lazy Susan with your sewing supplies right there beside your machine. Wonderful. Thanks for stopping by.
Wow! I don't know a sewer who wouldn't be ecstatic to have one of those. Love your creativity! It turned out beautiful! I'm going to have to keep my eye out for a card table now. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Mary,
Love the sewing table make over! Your old singer caught my eye. I too do most of my sewing with old Singers. I have a Singer 401 & a Singer 301A....best machines ever!! I learned to sew on my moms 401 as a child and she gave me my own on my 13th Bday. Following you now.
Jules
that table is gorgeous! you've transformed it beautifully, and i love how there's a space for everything.
This came out great!! Beautiful desk.
Stopping by from Flamingo Toes linky party and your newest follower.

Hi Mary...
Just doing a little catching up over here at your place! I just had to leave you a note about your new desk/sewing station! It's totally AWESOME...and I love it!!! What a neat idea! I love the finish and all of those glass cubbies filled with pretties! What a creative and talented lady you are, my friend! So glad that you shared this pretty piece with us!
Love ya,
Chari
OMG, that's the same style sewing machine that was MY first, 40 years ago, and it worked like a dream. My ex-hubby threw mine out when I accidentally left it behind, so sad!! It is the last of the Mohicans, so to speak -- all metal parts, nothing to break. ENJOY it, and thank you for the trip down memory lane. Your table turned out simply beautifully and I LOVE your post about the fireworks that happened when East met West!
Fondly,

Love your 'new' sewing and craft table! Your machine is the best. My mother-in-law sewed thousands of quilts for those in need through the years with her machine. Like yours. It didn't stop until the day she went to Heaven. Wish I had it now. Yours is a treasure - a wonderful find!

wow!!! this is awesome. I'd love to have a cabinet like that!!

May they live happily ever after. Love this pairing. Nice job.
At first I thought you were talking about my husband and I,haha! What an amazing piece, I love how you can see everything beneath the glass top. And your three tired organizer is gorgeous! Did you create that as well? Happy WW!
A.MAZ.ING! That is so ingenious and so cool! I love it!! I too am working on a new craft room. I can hardly wait to be able to use it.
Have a lovely weekend!
Deborah
I certainly think that it will last, my friend. Your sewing machine is modish, and your newly transformed card desk blended perfectly with it. I think it just needs a little more varnishing to make it look completely attractive and elegant.
