Creative Space Progress- The Joy is In The Journey!

"The joy is in the journey" My that has been so true in the area of my Creative Space.
The journey is slow but I have had so much fun working on this endeavor.
I have to confess that I was feeling somewhat guilty about making a space for me. So many other things that need to be done that are far more important, and yet as I shared my concerns with a friend, who is a dear mentor to me, and praying about it - I really do feel that God wants me to have joy in this journey and share the time with Him as I am tinkering.
It truly has been such a blessed time for me and I just feel like He is guiding my creativity when I come to a bit of a crossroads with this or that project. I can't wait to show you all the changes but will start with 2 little ones today-
Isn't this just such a cute little dresser!?
I painted it white - distressed it, washed it with my coffee stain solution, then used the starch technique (tutorial Here) to paper the inside of the drawers and the fronts. A mod podge layer was then brushed on.

I thought I would use this little dresser to store my jewelry junk making so picked out an appropriate song to use!  The pull is actually a purple glass pull to go along with the jewel theme.

I wanted it to look like a miniature dresser so I rummaged through my box of drawer pulls to find 4 that matched. Painted them with a quick coat of paint then glued them on the bottom of the unit with Gorilla Glue.

I picked up this darling little Gund mouse at a thrift store recently for 50 Cents. He is so cute and still has all his tags.
The other little project was a quick update to a lazy susan using some white paint around the edges and then the same technique for the paper.
Below are the before pictures to see how these ugly ducklings have been transformed.
The lazy susan was $1 at the thrift store and I picked up the drawers at a yard sale before we moved to Colorado years ago (shows you how long it takes for me to get projects done!) They were $2.00
Have you noticed something in the pictures- hint the background-  This is one of my favorite ideas that came to me and I can't wait to share it with you along with another fantastic project that is still in the works.
Edited to add- The room is finished! If you would like to see the final reveal click here!
Our son Jonathan is coming this next week to get started again on the house painting and re roofing so the creative space will probably be put on hold for a time- I am praying for great weather so they can get lots done. Last time they were here the wind blew 35 miles an hour while they were trying to pressure wash and then it snowed so they were disappointed with the lack of progress.
So looking forward to having Jonathan with us for another visit! Always love seeing my boys!

Oh, Mary Ellen! I love this. The little chest is adorable and I love how you've finished it with the music. I agree, God wants us to be happy and He says if we honor Him, He'll give us the desires of our hearts! You're giving Him glory when you use your talents and then show us! :) Love the turn around too. You're so talented.
Have a lovely weekend and be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Such a change to that little dresser - and what a lovely new use for it.
I know what you mean about having your boy home - no matter how old, it's such a treat to have them home for a bit.

oh that is just beautiful! I recently re-purposed some old furniture into an indoor plant stand with a coat of paint ( soon to be adding some new hardware and fabric but i get sidetracked easily lol)...but I absolutely love your idea with the music.. it is so lovely and delicate.

I also love the quote "the joy is in the journey"... so true!

Mary,
Adorable chest for your supplies! I love what you've done to the lazy susan...I still have the bottom half of one in my spice cabinet. Not good at guessing games, but is that a glimpse of wall paper in the background??? Thank you for taking us along on your journey! I count it all JOY!
Fondly,
Pat

Mary, I luv what you have done with the little chest- the music on the front of the drawers is so sweet. And who would think to transform an ordinary plastic tiered turn-around? I have an ugy orange one that needs the same treatment! Thanks for the inspiration. :-) Sue
