Springtime Weather Sweater........................ in a Wreath! TUTORIAL

Before I start this Sweater Wreath Tutorial I wanted to show you my  most recent wreath that I finished.

Springtime Pastel Sweaters are always fun to wear during the season to keep that little bit of chill away.  Well this wreath has chosen some pretty colors to dress herself this spring. Just take a look.

No matter what colors you choose you wreath will be showing off in style.
So let's get going and make a sweater wreath!

What to do with those old favorite sweaters that are too worn and torn for another season. A sweater wreath is the perfect solution!

You will need for this project-
Wreath- Styrofoam or Straw (if you will be hanging this outside you might want to use the heavier straw wreath.  I  used Styrofoam wreaths and saw this wreath form made from form wrap)
old sweaters I used4 or 5 different sweaters for the 2 wreaths I made
large needle and some heaverier thread
glue gun and sticks

(a little apology for not the greatest pictures.  I clicked these while at work at the Antique Store and old dark building)
Using the 3 inch strips that were cut, tack end of strip to Styrofoam with glue.  Wrap strips around the wreath and tack again with glue.
Now on to the fun part of making flowers!
We will start with the tan flower.

On to the mum looking flowers-

This flower also looks very sweet with the edge side up like illustrated below-
For single layer flowers you would use the same basic technique as first flower but sew gathering stitch at edge of strip of fabric as shown below.  This piece is the pretty edge piece that was set aside from the bottom edge of one sweater.
The 2 flowers shown below were made by cutting the cuffs off of sweater arms about 2 1/2 inches in width and running a gathering stitch around cut edge.   White flower to left has been turned to show the raw edge center and grey flower has a contrasting center like shown in flower #1.

You can also cut several different widths and then after you have gathered them to make the flower , layer them on top of each other like the large middle flower.

It is a lot of fun to just experiment with different colors, sizes and techniques.
Who knows you might come up with another fantastic flower and write your own tute!
Three different wreaths- cable knit sweater base and
nubby sweater base-
and the pretty pastel ready for Spring

Which is your favorite?

You are definitely so clever with all of your sweaters. Everything looks fabulous.

So glad you are having a little bit of a fun paint day. You need more of those play day. I've spent the day cleaning the carpet. I rented a Rug Dr. and I am exhausted. 5 hrs. behind that thing is enough, but the carpets look so much better. I didn't realize they were so dirty. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Marty
