Can you see the difference? Look- way to the back
I have been thinking about painting this china cabinet for awhile and am still not sure if it is the thing to do. I know- will I ever make a decision on anything. I look up to you gals who just get an idea and go for it-unfortunately that's not the way I operate most days-
So
Till I can be brave enough to Paint
I
decided to try and freshen up the look with
wallpapering it with old pages and music
Here's the before (yes, walls are still undecided too!)
This picture if from last year- if you look close you can see that funky wallpaper!
I took the glass shelves out and lined used newpaper to make a protective sheet . I transferred this to each shelf as I was working on them.
I sprayed the back with spray adhesive and then took miscellaneous vintage pages and started
slapping them up in hodge podge fashion.
Here it is before the pretties are put back-
Do you see those little white strips at the front edge of the shelves? That is the stiff side of Velcro strips cut very thinly. I tea dyed the crochet trim that Bill's grandmother had made for me years ago and those little strips keep it in place nicely!
The great thing about this little project is that it didn't cost a cent!
Now the fun part-
Playing with Picnik on some of my pictures-
Left is before- right bottom is after-
Woohoo I made a mosiac so I could Join in on Mosiac Monday at Little Red House this week too! Thank you Mary for hosting this fun link party!

I would paint it black. Just so you know--even though you didn't ask for our opinion.

That is simply gorgeous!! I love how it looks. I love the way it adds so much to it.
Oh, you clever, clever girl! I love the paper idea! And I'd have never thunk of using velcro to attach the trim...I've used double-stick tape, but I think the velcro would be more secure.
Beautiful job! Beautiful blog!
Have a great day!
Blessings!

SO pretty! I have a sad china hutch that could use just this treatment!! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Mary, The backing was super clever and oh so beautiful!
I love you picnik play too! It's raining like crazy here and blogger won't let me upload photos this morning... so I though I would do some serious cleaning... I am afraid picnik is whispering "come play with me" in my ear now :-)
Bella

Looks great! ...but I will have to try to give you a nudge to go ahead and paint it! This lighter background really shows off your dishes!
Hi Mary,
WOW...it's wonderful and you are so smart! It all just comes together. Yes...paint it! It will take some time to do...and you will be so happy that you did.

Very pretty, and what a clever idea.
The book pages really pop against the color of the wood! Makes for a beautiful look.
Jane
If it was up to me I definitely paint it a creamy white. Maybe the inside can be painted a different color, a color that you would decide to have in your dining area. Lots of pretty pinks in your china! I do hope you'll come up with something for your walls. DECISIONS Decisions, Decisions.... it can drive you crazy sometimes!

How beautiful your china cabinet is...and all you wonderful china!!
Stunning. Your vintage china with "old" pages as a background -- so feminine.

The vintage paper looks so good in the background. I agree with a few of the comments that you should paint it, but only if you're sure. This is your piece and you want to be happy with it. You also have an amazing collection of china!
What a great idea!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!
