I Made My First Banner Ever! and Catching Up!

Oh goodness. Not a real post since February!  Thank you all so much for your patience.
I have been loving all those darling banners and garlands I have been seeing around blogland and  finally sat down and made one for my booth.  Here is a sneak peek-

 

Uses my Silhouette to cut out the triangle flags and letters.  This was such a fun project and would love to go in the banner business now!

 

 I keep forgetting to take a picture of it hanging in my booth when I am there but promise I will try and get one snapped and show it to you- it really is cute I think.

 I also dolled up a few little chicks for Spring.  They asked for little tutu skirts!

We have been busy little bees since my last post.  Speaking of bees, my girlfriend from NM and her hubby came up this weekend for a visit and she wanted to help me feed the bees.  I suited her up in my bee suit (Jackie is on left) and I used the  pullover net suit (me getting ready to open the hive)

2 of our 3 hives did not survive the winter so we are down to only 1 hive.

March brought a trip to Phoenix to visit Bill's folks and many friends.  On the way back home my 2 sisters were in Albuquerque for our nephews State Basketball Championship and we were able to see each other for a few hours before we headed back North to Colorado.  What a blessing to spend time with them!

Much has been happening here- too much to post about but wanted to drop a line and say I am still here.  Jesus is helping me to sort out some much needed sorting of priorities as our ministry gets more and more busy but I hope to stay in touch when I can.

A snow storm is in the forecast for tomorrow so maybe it will end up being a snow day and I can play catch up on some projects!!  Our last snow had me out taking pictures like this-

You're "Sew" Sweet Valentine!

I wanted to make a little something special for all the hospice employees hubby and I have the privilege of working with.  This is such a special group of people- so loving and dedicated  to the many patients they serve. 

   Hospice work can be very stressful as you are helping those in their last days of life.  We love these ladies and admire each of the 20+ nurses, CNA, social workers and other staff that we have the privilege of knowing.

When I was organizing my Creative Space last year I came across this big bag of mending kits from a hotel that I picked up for $2 at the thrift store several years previous.

The paper I had was just regular weight paper (I don't have a huge selection of papers yet as I am a newbie with the Silhouette) so decided I would just cover the Mending Kit boxes with paper .  You could make new pillow boxes using heavy weight paper and your silhouette-

I opened a box and used it as a template to trace on the paper.  Cut each one out and then used glue sticks to glue to the original pillow boxes.  If you use glue stick you might want to put glue on both the box and the paper edges to make it secure.

 I used this Silhouette spool card to make the spool and this needle template.

If you don't have a silhouette you could easily make a spool pattern and cut them out.  I used the print and cut feature to print the "You're Sew Sweet" sentiment on the card stock before cutting them out

I forgot to make a little cut for the needle to go through the thread portion when cutting out so took an exacto knife and just made a little slit.  A button and bakers twine as thread for the needle and they are all done!

Inside is a little mending kit to keep in your purse our car for those unexpected emergencies!

I plan on making some more of these to use as little thank you gifts to slip in our thank you cards for our donors also.  Just change out the Valentines paper and these could be great little gifts for anyone.

 

This little box usually has my dessert recipes inside but thought it was the perfect little container to put my valentine sewing kits in.

  I almost feel like I am back in grade school getting to hand out pretty valentines to all my friends!

This was the first project with my Silhouette (actually I did a monogram frame for a wedding gift but forgot to take pictures!)  There is definitely a lot of learning and challenges with learning how to use this machine but I think once I get the hang of it I am going to have lots of fun!

There are a few guys that I need to make something for and have something in my head- if it works I will try and share it with you!
